AABB – Fostering a Well-informed Field

The AABB, which represents individuals and institutions involved in the fields of transfusion medicine and cellular therapies, earned a 2019 ASAE Power of A Gold Award for its Cellular Therapies Certificate Program, created to provide a comprehensive overview of cellular therapies (CT) to support training of current practitioners and to attract much-needed personnel to the field.

The manufacture of cellular products is often part of a lifesaving therapy, such as stem cell transplant. AABB’s program responds to the demands for an informed, well-trained workforce to ensure patient safety. AABB created a self-paced online program covering a range of essential scientific, operational and regulatory topics conveniently accessible to students anywhere. Students complete a 12-module program with scored competency-based assessments to receive a certificate and continuing education credits.

Texas Veterinary Medicine Association – Establishing Standards of Competency

The Texas Veterinary Medical Association earned a 2019 ASAE Power of A Gold Award for its Certified Veterinary Assistant Training and Certification Program which responds to the need to establish standards of competency and performance for individuals employed as veterinary assistants – critical members of the animal healthcare team. Since the program began, 1850 individuals have been certified in Texas

The success of the program led to the creation of Level II and Level III certifications to provide more in-depth knowledge and training. An extensive library of video training materials made available from Animal Care Technologies (ACT) supported the launch of CVA Level II. In 2006, ACT provided the technology support needed to deliver CVA program services over the Internet and the CVA online program was launched, quickly becoming an easily accessible training option for veterinary clinics.

Association Spotlight, brought to you by ASAE and The Power of A, was created to showcase how associations strengthen America and world. The next Power of A Awards entry period begins January 2020.
