American Physical Therapy Association – Helping Ensure Members’ Financial Stability
The American Physical Therapy Association earned a 2019 ASAE Power of A Gold Award for its APTA Financial Solutions Center (FSC), a free online financial resource for physical therapists (PTs) and physical therapist assistants (PTAs), for which the burden of student loan debt is a growing concern.
The program serves APTA members, nonmembers, pre-PT and PTA students, and their families who face an overwhelming array of challenges and decisions as they graduate from school and begin their professional careers. The FSC features a free financial education platform by iGrad/Enrich that provides customized learning through videos, webinars, articles, tests with scores, and live chats. Topics include student loan debt, repayment options, loan consolidation, budgeting, and mortgages.
Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International – Bolstering a New Profession
The Association of Unmanned Vehicle Systems International earned a 2019 ASAE Power of A Gold Award for its AUVSI Trusted Operator Program (TOP), a certification program to create a culture of safety, reliability, professionalism, and trust within the unmanned aircraft systems remote pilot community, commonly known as drones. As it continues to expand and evolve, the TOP program is building confidence with end-users, driving member engagement, and strengthening the association’s relationship with the FAA.
The program supports pilots who perform a myriad of operations across dozens of industries – including energy, agriculture, construction, mining, and surveying. Because of the agility and precision sensing capabilities of this technology, remote pilots are making work faster, cheaper, cleaner, and – most importantly – safer. While a relatively new profession, remote pilots constitute a rapidly growing population of professionals around the world.
Organization of American Historians – Fostering a Free and Accurate Press
The Organization of American Historians earned a 2019 ASAE Power of A Gold Award for Historians and the Media: A Database for Informed Public Opinion, a database to match historian experts with the media to fulfill the media’s pressing need for expert background on short notice. Its development was in response to today’s highly charged political climate, as the journalist’s need for subject matter expertise on a variety of policy issues is even more demanding, and mistakes can result in distrust of the media and charges of “fake news.”
The program leverages the insight of the associations’ members in order to help foster a free press that has access to complete and accurate information for every topic they cover. The project intends to reach all those in the media who need background information on a wide variety of topics and policy issues including on subjects as varied as politics, civil rights, women, race relations, immigration, religion, business and capitalism, environmental protection, monuments and memorials, agriculture and food, presidents, constitutional law, and sports.
Association Spotlight, brought to you by ASAE and The Power of A, was created to showcase how associations strengthen America and world. The next Power of A Awards entry period begins January 2020.
