This past Monday, ASAE hosted its annual Government Relations Symposium at the Georgetown University Hotel & Conference Center in Washington, DC.  More than 100 attendees at this year’s conference tackled some of the most challenging issues confronting association government relations professionals in our field and helped attendees learn to optimize their association’s relationships with policymakers.

This year’s keynote speaker was former White House press secretary Josh Earnest. The lunch address, facilitated by Amy Showalter of the Showalter Group, was focused on the power of storytelling. Several Summit Award winners were highlighted during this interactive session, including Military Officers Association of America, Emergency Nurses Association and American Counseling Association.

The theme of this year’s conference was “From Government Relations to Advocacy: Shifting the Association Paradigm.” In addition to high-level sessions for experienced GR professionals, the conference included a track of sessions for emerging GR professionals and those interested in growing their professional knowledge of government relations.
