I try to attend 1-2 medical society meetings pertinent to my specialty, Urology, per year. These meetings provide a forum to present new research findings, critique new surgical techniques or medications versus the “gold standards” and in general, serve as an update on clinical medical practices which can be implemented in treating our Veterans. Over the years, attending such meetings has stimulated my introducing state of the art urologic therapies such as, sacral neuromodulation, and Botulinum toxin injections for Neurogenic bladder treatment into active use at our VA. The cross-pollination of ideas/research findings at such meetings are invaluable to the progress and improvement of delivery of optimum medical care to our veteran population.
