In 2012 the ASAE Public Policy Committee and Government Relations Section Council formed a working group that was tasked with examining current ASAE policy regarding lobbying and creating a statement on the value of association lobbying to society. The group updated the Association Lobbyist Professional Guidelines that were approved by the Board of Directors this past August. The guidelines aim to promote and achieve effective, responsible government by setting high standards for association lobbyists.

The Lobbying Reform Working Group wrote “Association Lobbyist Professional Guidelines.” This document explains the value of association lobbying to the public and lawmakers. It also focuses on the efforts for transparency and accountability by associations in their lobbying capacities.
