The Technology Association of Georgia (TAG), a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing the state’s technology industry, is expanding their annual Techie 10K Run/Walk this year to include a 5K option for participants. The event takes place October 1 at 8 AM and will benefit the organization’s efforts to fund more science and technology education for young children.
The annual competition was created to give healthy competition between different companies based in Georgia while raising money for a good cause. Companies are encouraged to sponsor teams and are eligible to win the “Corporate Team Cup”. Individual participants can also compete for prizes based on finish and age bracket as well as competing to beat TAG President & CEO Tino Mantella. All participants who beat Mantella this year are entered into a drawing to win a Blackberry Playbook.
A portion of the proceeds from the run/walk will benefit the TAG Education Collaborative’s mission to strengthen Georgia’s future workforce by helping science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) education initiatives thrive. Last year, there were close to 300 participants with 25 corporate teams and individuals competing.
“This is a unique opportunity for Georgia’s technology companies to become more directly involved with their community and each other. It’s about strengthening the camaraderie within our own businesses as well as within Georgia’s technology sector,” said Tino Mantella.
