Program: 360 Degrees of Financial Literacy

Description: Americans are on a collision course with financial disaster. The U.S. Commerce Department’s Bureau of Economic Analysis reports a negative national savings rate with Americans spending $1.22 for every $1.00 they earn. In 2003, a record 1.6 million Americans filed for personal bankruptcy, according to the American Bankruptcy Institute. A Demos study found that family credit card debt grew by 53% during the 1990s, to an average of $8,000.
