Program: Hurricane Katrina Relief Effort

Description: Within hours of the first reports of Hurricane Katrina, ACA went into high gear with a comprehensive response effort that ultimately encompassed sending thousands of professional counselors to the region, raising nearly $60,000, providing grants and support to state branches, becoming the facilitator of global communications for the profession, partnering with organizations such as the American Red Cross, and developing many technical resources.

Program: Dine for America

Description: On October 5, 2005, the National Restaurant Association mobilized more than 17,000 restaurants to participate in Dine for America. Organized by the Association, the nationwide fundraiser raised funds to support families whose lives were devastated by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

Program: Hunger Awareness Outreach

Description: The National Restaurant Association and its members have been particularly active on hunger relief. In an effort to help food banks and food rescue organizations meet the ever-increasing demands for emergency food assistance, the National Restaurant Association partnered with America’s Second Harvest to create the first restaurant-specific food-donation resource on Second Harvest’s Web site, to help restaurateurs donate unused and leftover food.

Program: NCDS Dental Access Days - Rocky Mount Clinic

Description: In North Carolina, the problem of access to dental care has reached nearly epidemic proportions. More than 1 million indigent adults and children have no source for regular dental care. The Dental Access Days program organizes dental professionals and lay volunteers to deliver free dental care to indigent patients in areas of the state where access to care is most limited. Each two-day clinic uses donated dental supplies and mobile equipment to deliver the level of care found in private dental offices

Description: The culmination of SNA’s most popular campaign ever - “Vote for School Lunch 2008 - Presidential Edition” - was very successful at teaching kids about the benefits of school lunch and increasing school lunch participation during a tough economic time for most families. SNA members applauded this popular program as a fun way to empower kids to choose school lunch.
