Nearly 200 advocates trekked to Capitol Hill today for American Associations Day 2017, ASAE’s legislative fly-in.

The fly-in participants, representing associations from more than 30 states, were asked to discuss a couple of key issues: tax reform and its potential impact on associations, and the value of association meetings and conferences. They also shared statistics and personal stories that exemplify the power of associations and the many contributions they make to society.

The American Associations Day message was amplified this year through a social media tool called Thunderclap. Participants in ASAE’s #AssociationsStrengthenAmerica Thunderclap shared a message on their social media channels today about the millions of association professionals in every industry and sector collectively working to enrich lives around the globe. The Power of A Thunderclap had a social media reach of nearly 150,000 people.

At an ASAE Board reception at the Hyatt Regency on Capitol Hill last night, ASAE presented its Sentinel Award to Rep. Kurt Schrader (D-OR) for introducing a workable alternative to the overtime rule that was put forward by the Department of Labor last year. ASAE is also recognizing Rep. Peter Roskam (R-IL) with a Sentinel Award this year for his understanding and support of associations’ interests in the tax reform discussion taking place in Congress.
