The National Restaurant Association, the leading business association for the restaurant industry, released its jobs forecast yesterday for the summer of 2011 and is anticipating its members will add over 400,000 jobs to the struggling national economy.

U.S. restaurants employ nearly 13 million people, or almost 10 percent of the U.S. workforce, according to the NRA press release.  Restaurants are also the second largest providers of summer employment behind only the construction industry.  The 425,000 jobs that will be added this summer represent a 4.6% increase in the March 2011 employment numbers, and is the highest number of jobs added during the summer over the past four years.

According to the National Restaurant Association, every additional million dollars in restaurant sales generates 34 more jobs for the economy.  You can view the state-by-state number here and the press release here.
