National Association of Counties (NACo) represents all county government officials across the nation. County government is the government closest to the people, employing hundreds of thousands of people, spending more than $300,000,000 billion a year and providing local services to keep our economy running.
County governments are working closely with the federal and state governments to spend carefully the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 funds. Counties will create and maintain jobs in these tough times by building roads, repairing bridges, providing access to health care at public hospitals, extending broadband to rural communities to increase economic opportunities via the Internet and to green government with energy efficiency cutting costs for residents.
